LINK: Wow, GREAT GREAT article on the Chicago Bears

I just read a GREAT article about the Chicago Bears, and how their fans and media are reacting to the Vikings signing Brett Favre.

Here’s the gist of the article:

According to fans of the other teams in the NFC North, over the past few weeks, the Vikings have been screwed because they were going to sign Brett Favre, screwed because they then failed to sign Brett Favre, and most recently screwed because they actually signed Brett Favre.

It goes on to explain why the Vikings don’t really need to be afraid of the Chicago Bears.  It also goes on to mention that even though it’s true that Favre led the league in interceptions last year, the guy at the #2 spot was Jay Cutler… and Cutler doesn’t have Royal or Marshall to throw to this year.

And while Favre played the last month of the season with an injured bicep tendon, Cutler’s only affliction during the same time period was attempting to throw passes with both hands wrapped around his throat.

It’s a really good article.  I highly recommend that you read it!

Jay Cutler is now OFF the market

Well, that didn’t last long

Cuter is a Bear

Tuesday Denver quarterback Jay Culter was put on the trading block. Thursday he was traded to Chicago for 2 first round picks, a 3rd round pick, and Kyle Orton.

Obviously for Vikings fans, seeing Cutler go to Chicago is bad enough, but how irritating is it that the Vikings let yet another quarterback slip through their grip?

Brad Childress got this reputation as a quarterback developer… why, because Donovan McNabb got good when Childress was in Philly?

So far in Minnesota with Childress, we’ve had Brad Johnson (inherited from Mike Tice), Brooks Bollinger, Tarvaris Jackson, Kelly Holcomb, and Gus Frerotte all start games. John David Booty was drafted. This year Sage Rosenfels was brought in to spark competition.

Forgive me if I don’t get overly excited about Brad’s quarterback scouting ability.

I’ve always been pulling for T-Jack since the day that he was drafted. If we enter the season with Jackson, Rosenfels, and Booty as our only QBs, I’ll be pulling for him again. I think he has some potential in there somewhere. But that doesn’t mean I don’t want to get someone better. I want the Vikings to win immediately, and they seem to be a quarterback away from that.

Cutler is now officially on the market

In Denver, it’s no longer a question of “if” they will trade Jay Cutler, but now the questions are “when” and “to whom”.

Somehow, though, Minnesota isn’t on the list of speculated teams.

It came out a while back that basically “someone” on the Vikings coaching staff nixed the idea of picking up Cutler. Even though I know I’m holding onto a thread here, but I hope that that was just Childress’s way of staying “clever” about the whole thing. I hope they realize how much of an impact that a guy like Cutler could make on the Vikings.

Personally, I say give them our first round pick AND Chester Taylor. I’d hate to see Chester go, but we have to offer the best package here. Also throw in their choice of Jackson, Rosenfels, or Booty.

Then in the third round of the draft, the Vikings should pick up Shonn Green from the University of Iowa to replace Taylor. Green is a powerhouse runner who can also make some nice moves. He was the first Hawkeye back in the history of the school to run for at least 100 yards in every game. He should still be around by the 4th round, and he would at least partially make up for the loss of Taylor.

But I fear it’s all a pipe dream…

Cutler wants traded

Broncos Quarterback Jay Cutler has officially stated that he wants out of Denver.

Even though I think it’s highly doubtful that it will happen, the Vikings need to move on this NOW and get it down. Cutler is the piece that the Vikings need to dominate the NFC for the next several years. Seriously… the Vikings were 10-6 this past season with Frerotte and Jackson behind center. What could they do with someone that actually can move and can get the ball downfield?

The problem will come with what they can offer Denver. I honestly don’t know what they could package up to get Denver’s attention.

If it’s possible, though, they need to do it. Whatever it takes. (Short of AP or anyone on the defensive line)
