Around the NFL: Does the NFC North have the best quarterbacks?

I’ve seen this question pop up on several blogs and forums across the internet, so I thought I’d throw it out here:

Does the NFC North have the best foursome of starting quarterbacks in the league?

Let’s look at the starters.

NFC North:

Chicago Bears: Jay Cutler
Detroit Lions: Probably #1 draft pick Matt Stafford
Green Bay Packers: Aaron Rodgers
Minnesota Vikings: Brett Favre

NFC East:

Dallas Cowboys: Tony Romo
New York Giants: EliManning
Philadelphia Eagles: Donovan McNabb
Washington Redskins: Jason Campbell.

NFC West:

Arizona Cardinals: Kurt Warner
San Fransisco 49ers: Shaun Hill or Alex Smith
Seattle Seahawks: Matt Hasselbeck
St. Louis Rams: Marc Bulger

NFC South:

Atlanta Falcons: Matt Ryan
Carolina Panthers: Jake Delhomme
New Orleans Saints: Drew Brees
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Byron Leftwich

AFC North:

Baltimore Ravens: Joe Flacco
Cincinnati Bengals: Carson Palmer,
Cleveland Browns: Brady Quinn
Pittsburgh Steelers: Ben Roethlisberger

AFC East:

Buffalo Bills: Trent Edwards
Miami Dolphins: Chad Pennington
New England Patriots: Tom Brady
New York Jets: Mark Sanchez

AFC West:

Denver Broncos: Kyle Orton
Kansas City Chiefs: Matt Cassel
Oakland Raiders: JaMarcus Russell
San Diego Chargers: Phillip Rivers

AFC South:

Houston Texans: Matt Schaub
Indianapolis Colts: Peyton Manning
Jacksonville Jaguards: David Garrard
Tennessee Titans: Kerry Collins

That’s really a tough call, but I’d have to say the NFC would have to be considered as the best QB division, now that Favre has joined the ranks.  Really, in my opinion, the only true competition would come from the NFC East.  Romo, McNabb, and Eli are all really good, and Campbell’s not bad himself.

What do you think?

What do you think? Tarvaris or Sage

According to the Access Vikings guys (vi Twitter), Tarvaris Jackson is back on the practice field today, so the competition is once again going.

So that got me wondering… who do you guys want to win? Would you rather see the Vikings led by Tarvaris Jackson in 2009, or Sage Rosenfels? I know a lot of you probably have alternate answers, but assuming it has to be one of those two guys, what do you think?

Personally I prefer Jackson. I think Jackson just has more upside to him than Sage. He’s mobile, and when his confidence is there he can zip the ball around. In the last 4 games of the regular season he played very well and he moved the ball when he needed to.

I think Sage would be serviceable as our starting QB, but after recently watching guys like Brad Johnson, Kelly Holcomb, and Gus Frerotte, I’m just not that interested in a QB who can’t avoid a pass rush.

Will Sage Rosenfels be a Viking?

The Star Tribune is reporting that the Vikings are close to trading for Houston backup Sage Rosenfels.  Houston wants a 2nd round pick for him, the Vikings are looking to give a 4th round.  They will probably compromise on a 3rd round pick.

So what does this mean for the QB search?  Is Rosenfels going to be the man that competes with Jackson for the starting job?  Will the Vikings still go after a more proven QB, possibly Jeff Garcia?

Personally I’d love to see them get Rosenfels AND Garcia.  I would certainly feel comfortable with a couple years of Garcia behind center while Rosenfels and Jackson positioned themselves to compete for the job in 2011.
